A woman with a breakthrough opportunity must put off a long-awaited family gathering so that she can secure a better future for herself.

This is a scene from a screenplay called Contempt, a character drama set within the 26th century. In this story, an outcast named Sherry Pickett must forge a better life for herself after casting aside all the luxuries of a xenophobic, war-mongering species. The goal is to pay off her father's debt while she still has the strength to overcome its toll. When a job opportunity promises her freedom, she discovers that her well-meaning morals and drive have no place in a galaxy torn by years of unkempt bloodshed. In order to prove herself worthy of a new life, she will need to bleed for it.
